The History of GoodWorks NC’s Community Involvement

GoodWorks NC was initiated in 2020 to help local foundations and causes financially and through visibility. Our members are all individual small business owners from the local Triad, NC, communities. We are dedicated to assisting those suffering from housing crises.

We believe in coming together to help our communities grow by investing in the people and places close to home. Initially, in 2020 we supported many different types of charities at one time, and we've shifted our focus to focus on one primary charity at a time to give the most effective assistance possible. John Jarvis

“John Jarvis lives in his childhood home built by his parents in 1961. "Six of us lived in this home, and we did the best we could," said Mr. Jarvis. This home represents his community and his family. Photos line the shelves in his den, a constant reminder of the importance of his family's home and the memories of family members who have passed on. Mr. Jarvis lives next door to his mom's sister and his cousin, and they introduced him to the good work of Community Housing Solutions.

Due to his declining health, his family's home fell into disrepair. Mr. Jarvis was worried he was going to have to leave his mom and dad's home because he could not physically or financially afford to take care of all the repairs needed. Community Housing Solutions' Home Repair and Aging Gracefully programs provided critical repairs to make his home warmer, drier, and safer, allowing him to continue to live and age in his childhood home.

CHS replaced the roof, repaired his kitchen and bathroom flooring, converted his bathtub to a safer walk-in shower with grab bars, and installed an accessibility ramp. Mr. Jarvis is now able to move in and around his home safely, and he will be able to stay in this home, which makes him very happy. "I love this home, and I am thankful for the work you did," said Mr. Jarvis. "I can live longer knowing these changes have been made, and I have something to look forward to now. I just wish my mom could see it."
